“Normal” people tend to go towards their friends especially if they haven’t seen each other for a long time. Republicans, on the other hand, have “new friends, MAGA friends” from whom they would rather run, fast, the other way.
Typical bully and coward behavior. Now Hawley is fundraising, selling coffee mugs with his “fist pump”. Of course he’s not selling a mug showing him running like a scared puppy from the mob. The former Missouri senator who endorsed Hawley in his Senate election is making mea culpas, totally embarassed and disgusted by the actions of Hawley and what he represents.
That image of a courageous politician (/s/) brings to memory what someone said a while back, “I will run to in to stop a shooter all by myself” or “one good guy with a gun can stop a shooter”. I forget which one was what, but I figure you get the picture
Colbert showed the same video the hearing had on his show. See the attached video starting at about 9:25. Then wait until Colbert says, “Can we turn the video on” – hilarious! https://decider.com/2022/07/22/stephen-colbert-mocks-josh-hawley-fleeing-jan-6-mob/
Just looking at some of the comments on this story in the NYTimes and the WaPo, I noticed that many of the commenters wanted to set the clip to music, but they are about evenly split between “Yakkety Sax” (theme from the Benny Hill show—never seen it, but I gather that it plays during chaotic scenes) and a version of the minstrel band that accompanies brave\\\\\ cowardly Sir Robin in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

One of the major advantages of a dark blue suit is it’s difficult for people to see you’ve wet yourself.
OUR senators are far braver, and they are both girls!

Pence was actually sequestering in a nearby secure room, and doing the POTUS’ job of requesting assistance from the National Guard.

Pence was not gonna get in a car with the secret service agents. I guess he figured that he might see the same fates as those texts, deleted!!

Hawley wanted the best of both worlds — to appear supportive of the Base and then survive to run again.

Not brave, courageous, nor bold,
He showed us his fist, we give him the finger,
On the day his soft backbone did fold."
