I tried to contribute to the menu today…I put a pan of sugar water on the stove ( hummer food, simmered for 6 min) I forgot to set the timer. Next thing the smoke alarm went off and I ran into the kitchen from my office, the house was filled with smoke. I didn’t even notice the pan on the stove. I ran outside and called the fire dept. When the fireman came out with the pan, now a topped with a black dome of death, I remembered. Upside, the fireman was really cute. And I’m an idiot.
I think I’m finally making some progress with the kittens! Yesterday, the 3 of them were sitting on this little table I have in their crate. I put it in there as something they could hide under without really being hidden. And as something they could play on, too. They sit on it a lot. I was keeping it towards the back of the crate, but they keep pushing it close to the door at the front of the crate. They do that as they play in there. Anyway, all 3 kittens were sitting on the table right by the door, so I opened the door, fully expecting all 3 of them to hiss and run to the back of the crate. But they didn’t! Panther (the black one) ran, but the others stayed on the table and allowed me to pet them. As long as they were letting me do that, I wasn’t going to try to pick them up. And for once, they didn’t look at me with wild, fearful eyes. They closed their eyes and had blissful looks on their faces. Just an hour or so ago, it was the same thing, except the gray kitten ran when I opened the door to the crate. Panther and the other one allowed me to pet them. All day, they were calmer than usual, not running or hissing every time I came near them. When my brothers were here delivering my new (used) stove, they showed more curiosity than fear.
But here is the very best part. When I was petting Panther and the tortoise shell kitten an hour or so ago, my little tortie actually PURRED! A very vocal purr! Panther sat there hissing from time to time even as she let me pet her. But she was closing her eyes as if in bliss. I hope this trend continues every day.

Oh, like you could do any better, Chesney. Poor Annie looks bamboozled while Chesney tries to look innocent. On another note, saw a rabbit and three robins while out walking today.
