So James here going to be playing Raúl Castro — Fidel’s brother — in that film? (I’m being serious and sarcastic at the same time; I’m unaware of a Fidel Castro movie in the works.)
My sentiments as well. There were and are plenty of talented Latino actors available to cast in those roles. I’ve also always felt the same way about native American roles in westerns, which were almost never portrayed by native American actors.
Ah, the amazing Chespirito. Yes, he always played a clown but he was loved by millions. My favorite was when he played the bumbling superhero “El Chaupin Colorado” – “The Red Grasshopper”. His comedy was an acquired taste and sometimes rough around the edges (these shows had very low budgets compared to Norteamericano television).
It seems some people don’t understand that movies are in the business of make-believe. If an actor can capture the essence of a character with the help of make-up, big deal! No amount of make-up could make John Wayne look believable as Genghis Kahn, but if Franco can be believable as Castro, more power to him. While hiring minorities in movies is lacking, there are other factors involved in who gets a part than just race, and complaining about every little part won’t get more minorities hired, it will get more minority characters never getting to the screen.

And yet hardly anybody blinked when 5’7" Tom Cruise played 6’5" Jack Reacher.
Need we even mention the cast of Hamilton?

Castro’s father was Spanish, aka European.
