Give Buckles his own blanket for the sofa. Wash it regularly. No big deal. Dogs just want to be with their people or where their people hang out. I sometimes buy several yards of fleece fabric, cut it in half, and make two blankets that wash up very easily for years. (I used to have two beagles before this one and they eventually both wanted one extra each to cover themselves with on the sofa.)

Grew up with St. Bernards had one that when I was laying on the sofa she would get up and lay on me.

In catalogs, I have seen stairs that have been made especially for dogs to be able to climb onto sofas or chairs.
