Good for her! I was a pretty good summer break reader but, with the benefit of hindsight, I would have done a lot more – not really appreciating/taking full advantage of actually HAVING a summer break at the time :-).
Between 8th and 9th grade, Soul on Ice, by Eldridge Cleaver was on our summer reading list. Being naive I thought it was about hockey. So my mother said she was going to the store and asked if I would like her to pick up any books from my summer reading list and she picked it up for me. That book certainly was an eye opener for a 13 year old!
