The so called health insurance at one company I worked for had $1500 deductible.

You can get no deductible or co-pay insurance.

What is a “deductible”?

That’s called “wellness motivation”.

Can’t afford to get sick.

and sadly, their pension often consists of a winning lottery ticket …

bills can’t pay themselves.

If you live in a country with “free” healthcare, you prepaid your insurance, copays and deductibles with higher taxes. In the US, you pay as you use medical services. This allegedly gives people an incentive to stay healthy – or consume fewer services
