    You learn Roman numerals so you can interpret the copyright date on movies.

    when i started high school in RI, Latin was a required course…also our desks had graffiti from the Civil War on them

    I thought it was Latin that doomed the Roman Empire, not Roman numerals? At least that was the conclusion of innumerable high school students (but not me, my high school offered it but I took German). Isn’t there a poem about that (I have no idea of the rest of it or who the author was): “First it killed the Romans, and now it’s killing me”.
