Well, even as a semi-retiree (disability), I still have appointments to keep. Luckily I have all of them in the calender on my phone, which gives a signal before the appointment, so I don’t have to watch the clock.
In the beginning of Easy Rider, the Peter Fonda character takes off his Rolex, looks at it, then drops it in the dirt. Then he and Dennis Hopper take off on their choppers looking for adventure.
A couple of months into the pandemic I noticed my watch had stopped running when I saw it on top of my dresser. Husband was trying to figure out how to get a new one (not going out then at all). I pointed out to him that I had no need of same as I only wore it when we were out. About a year or so ago he bought a battery for it. I still have not had him put the battery in as we still go out only when we need to and knowing the time when we do so does not matter – as we will do what we went out to do and then go home anyway – plus can always check cell phone, need watch only when have to check time on the sly.
Late last year husband decided we were going to one of our reenactment unit’s events. We checked our stuff in advance and my pocket watch (battery) was not running and we did not have any battery for it in the house. I tend to be the time keeper at this particular event which husband is in charge for the unit as we have definite end time when we need to be packed up and out the building we are interpreting. So he did not have a watch that night as I had his pocket watch. We went to an event this past weekend and he did setup my watch for it – did not refer to it even once, just followed which activities were occurring with the site’s staff. When they started packing to leave – so did we.

Time as a linear concept is simple minded

As a retiree, I have 5 Saturdays, a Sunday and a Monday each week. Sunday take out the trash can for pick up. Monday bring it back

It seems since I retired, I’m busier than I was when I was working full time. My cell phone is now my watch and calendar and alarm clock!

Even as a retiree I keep track of the time for various reasons. And if I don’t have my watch on, I check the time every 5 minutes.

Some people are only a slave to the clock because they want to be, Liv.
