Could have been worse. At least he didn’t have to put up with the cat for 10 or 15 years.

A limping stray cat once crossed my path, not black but a super-friendly yellow (former) tomcat. I took him to the vet to see what caused that limp—he had a severely broken femur. When the doc asked what I wanted them to do, I said “fix it”, even though I didn’t have much money (it took me 2 years to pay them off, fortunately they didn’t charge interest). Once healed, I took him out to the ranch where I kept my horse and where he lived out his life in comfort and companionship with my horse and all the other critters there.

I have never heard that before. I thought that you got seven years bad luck for breaking a mirror.

black cats are bad luck in american culture for the same reason they were once considered good luck in english. They were the familiar of the local witch/wisewoman. in the americas this automatically was bad, but in rural england she was the source of local medicine inrural areas and so it meant she was keeping an eye on you.

Harsh. However, black cats need lovin’ too. Besides, they’re babe magnates. Go get the cat Rod. You need all the help you can get.

Was it Schrödinger’s cat? Was it alive or dead? If you can Prove it was alive. Then you win the Nobel Prize in Quantum Physics!!

I have always had a black cat. Sometimes more than one. Right now our black cat is a big (10kg) Norwegian Forest Cat who is dying to get on with winter. Odinsdottir loves the snow.

Did the black cat that crossed the road remember to chant the appropriate Latin invocation while doing so?

I’ve owned a fair amount of dogs and cats over time. But I never bought one or adopted one. They were always free.
