Bucky’s theory sounds more like a “big break” theory, where the planets started out neatly racked up together.

The thing about the Pacific Ocean used to be part of a real theory about the Moon. It was still being taught as “possible” when I was a kid. But once plate tectonics came around in the 1960s, it was clear that the Pacific Basin is much, much too young compared to the Moon.
