I don’t think I would ever call my father “Boomer.”

My did missed the boomers by 3 years.

It’s funny. I walk my dog at a local university campus for years. All the students there and only one student has taken the time to talk to me. “So what’s your story?”. Hopefully he’s the next Studs Terkel.

I wonder what led to this exchange? “Hey kid, fix your hat!” “Okay, Boomer.”

There’s no need to ever disrespect anyone.

As well it should be. After all we survived riding our bikes all over town without wearing helmets; played ‘Kick the can’ until the street lights came on , some times even after; made our own skateboards and rode them without wearing a helmet, gloves, knee pads & elbow pads; settled our arguments on the ball field with a fist fight rather than a shooting; and most likely served in the military with possible deployment to Vietnam.

Reading the news, it seems GenZ has realized they can do something besides complain.

I get called that on Twitter.

“Thanks, sonny, I may be a boomer, but you are a piece of snot that is still wet behind the ears, has no understanding of reality, a waste of space, who couldn’t last two seconds without your technology so have a great life you brain-dead\ butthole.” Smiling the whole time! (out of curiosity where is the kid’s iPhone he should be staring into and the set of AirPods in his ears?)

The snarky youth’s kids will taunt him with ‘OK Zoomer’.

Whenever I receive an: “OK Boomer…”

I respond back with: “That, coming from a generation that eats Tide Pods….”

Boomer eh? The only Boomer me knews was a bubble gum. Boom Boom Boomer!

It’s not so much the phrase, it’s the accompanying smirk.

Then I tell them to get off my lawn.

Says a lot about the ones who use the term in a derogatory manner. I was taught to respect and learn from my elders.

I dunno, I’ve always felt that, being born in 1960, I belong to a group that should be considered separate. I think a lot of us on the backside, tail-end or shadow of the boom, the younger brothers and sisters, feel sort of betwixt and between, neither here nor there, this nor that. I haven’t seen any report or media acknowledgment of it, it’s just a feeling. Maybe it’s just me.

If, they call you a Boomer. Refer to them as Sonny Jim.
