I remember photo developing at the store. It was awful. You never knew what you would get.
One time, I had a roll of photos of friends and family (and me). The shop printed them with half of a person’s face on one print and the other half on another print. The entire roll was printed that way, and the negatives were fine, so obviously their machine (or the person running it) was off. They refused to reprint them because the manager couldn’t see anything wrong with them!
I went to Egypt and took 52 rolls of film. It cost a fortune to get them developed and printed at the camera store. The prints were all a bright orange. Orange! I had a fit and they told me that they “color saturated” my photos because that’s what most people want and that it was my fault because I should have told them not to.
We never had a one hour photo store in our small town but the local camera shop did their own developing as it was owned by a professional photographer. Their prints were always perfect – but expensive. On our honeymoon in Florida, almost 47 years ago, we had our pictures developed at the local stores we found. We could pick up the pictures the next day but they were so much cheaper than our local prices. We had all the prints in a brown paper bag when we returned home. A week later I went looking for them – and could not find them. Turns out my wife, without looking, figured the bag was garbage and threw it out. Fortunately the negatives were stored in my suitcase so we could get everything reprinted. Rather expensive pictures they turned out to be.

These ‘one-hour photo’ places used to be on every block of the touristy parts of Hollywood .. and now 99% of them are gone.
I say 99%, because there is one still in operation. I never see anyone inside it, though .. probably, it’s a tax dodge.

She should have just said “I’ll take my film to the one hour photo place on the next block”. That would probably have gotten some results.

Who’d a thought that the mobile phone would put the photography industry into a hurt locker? Talk about collateral damage.

Demand ‘em for free, Cathy. Or just shove the attendant’s face right in the … well, let’s stick with “demand ’em for free”. :)
HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, Clan.
