It’s entirely possible for Cathy to come by herself, and the three of them can have a good time. It’s only a mindset if a couple thinks they can only have a good time with another couple. It’s the same as hanging out with a group of friends. Regardless, at least it will be a fun week of Cathy and Irving and all of their awkwardness!

If Cathy’s friend is insecure in her relationship she may worry that Cathy without a date may try to ‘steal’ Simon. I have run into people like that in the past. Fortunately my girlfriend (now my wife) and I were trusting enough that we often went out with a third person either male or female. Once, when I was not in a party mood, she went out with the gang without me. Did not bother me at all.
When I was a divorcee (or however it’s spelled), I got the feeling that every one of my girlfriends thought I was going to steal their husband or boyfriend. Believe me, I could not have been less interested. When I found a boyfriend of my own, I also found a whole new set of friends that he brought with him.
