I thought the idea of indoor malls was an excellent one – especially here where daytime temps in January and February sometimes don’t get above -30C – usually with a heavy north wind to add excitement. My experience with malls is rather limited. We did have one with all of 25 stores. Over the last couple of years it has been converted into a strip mall so now you have to go back outside to visit the next store. When I first visited the larger malls in cities I did notice they were crowded – often with young people who were just hanging out rather than shopping. That seems to have passed as my last few visits were in very empty hallways with most people shopping. Guess you cannot go there to meet someone new anymore.
And yes – there is no way Cathy will get out of there without buying shoes or something else she does not need.
Decorative holiday blinders should be on Aisle 1. Best to bring your own, however.
I always treat a trip to the mall as a time-limited expedition into hostile territory. The music is relentless , the “sales” are unfathomable, the distractions are intentional and misleading and most social interaction is limited to not bumping into people.
I think when the indoor mall concept began it was some kind of test to breed a generation that could live in near-Earth orbit without sunlight, trees, or personal space. Even that “goal” seems to have been lost in the unrestricted pursuit of your dollars. :) :(
“Holiday housewares voice”? Do I dare ask? I have to wonder what other specific voices she’s holding in her arsenal. On second thought, probably don’t wanna know. Ha.
