My Epson quit printing colors, and I thought it was a goner. I tried a kit that I found online, but it didn’t seem to help. After that, I created a sheet with the major colors on it and printed it at least a dozen times. The colors started coming back (slowly, with skipping at first), and now it prints colors just fine. I just have to remember to print colors every so often so the print heads stay cleaned out.
The reason is intuitively obvious. You didn’t threaten it with a Hello Kitty baseball bat first. All electronic devices respond to a threat from a Hello Kitty baseball bat.

There’s a YouTube video of a guy fixing his fitbit in a similar fashion.
