While there may be no two alike at this moment, one cannot say that there never have been or never will be. The number of variables is not infinity, so there is inevitably a real. though small, chance of duplication. This is why, like other analysts, I never testified that any fingerprint was unique, only that in over 100 years of practice, no examiner has found two with a sufficient number of like characteristics and no contradictory features. With both, you can say two are different, or that in the characteristics you can see, they are alike, but you can’t say they are unique.
They say that knowing the burden of proof is on the doubter. And who has the time to check every snowflake. Well, I do since I’m retired, but it doesn’t snow here.
