Until now, I thought Elizabeth was fairly oblivious to Anthony’s interest since he had not acknowledged it openly yet. Maybe she wasn’t expecting to feel the way she does…. until this incident.
The Enjos seem to be the resident busybodies. Such as Brian Enjo tattling to his mother that Michael was a peeping tom in the girls’ shower at camp (and conveniently omitting the fact that Brian himself was a participant). Why was that an issue that the parents needed to know about if the camp director did not think it such a violation that he needed to embroil John and Elly in it? He had punished Michael by making him work in the kitchens and that was it.
Then a gang of boys magically shows up to tease Anthony about it as if Dawn is one of his love conquests. We have a “Yee Haw” in the back that makes me wish for the upcoming days of “Hoo” boy. There is nothing about any of this that makes a lick of sense.
Elizabeth stomps off angry because:
1. That’s just what Elizabeth does.
2. Elizabeth realizes that she has missed an opportunity and should have written and swallowed a love note to Anthony like Dawn did.
3. Elizabeth is frightened off by gangs of boys with bad dental work.
4. Elizabeth heard the “Yee Haw” and assumed they were shooting an episode of “Hee Haw” and no one told her.
5. Elizabeth feels betrayed by Dawn who should have known she was interested in Anthony, even though she has never said that to her. She just should have known.
6. Elizabeth is not angry. She is off looking for “Hoo” boy to let him know to join in on the fun.
7. She remembered that MIchael did most of his romance with note-writing and she has vowed never to do anything stupid like Michael.

Why is she getting mad at him instead of Dawn?

If Liz overreacts, she will owe Dawn a huge apology, and she can also take a minute to give Candace a kick in the pants.

A big misunderstanding! It’s just like that one episode of Three’s Company. I can’t remember which one.

Look at all my trials and tribulations
Sinking in a gentle pool of jokes.
Don’t disturb me now, I can’t see the answers
’Till last evening is this morning, life is fine.
Always hoped that I’d find a boyfriend.
Knew that I would find one it if I tried.
Then when we married, we can have some babies,
So they’ll still talk about us when we’ve died.
The end…is just a little harder, when brought about by friends.
For all you care, this paper is my soul.
For all you care, this pen is the knife.
The end! This is my heart you crush.
This is my soul you destroy.
If you would remember me when play your jokes.
I must be mad thinking I’ll be cared for.
Yes, I must be out of my head.
Look at your blank faces. My life will mean nothing
Ten minutes after I’m gone.
One of you denies me.
One of you betrays me.
