Red may not have been speaking just for himself. He may have been speaking for his class. Rover should consider that Red belongs to a classroom as well as a family.
My 8yo, now in 3rd grade has little to no homework. I asked about it since I remember the homework I was given in 3rd grade. The response was, “homework is not an approved teaching method any longer.” Go figure.
Remember, teachers have to grade all that homework, often at home as their “homework”. If you haven’t taught, you would be surprised at how much work they take home.
True that‼️ it’s ridiculous the amount assigned every night! It’s because the teachers teach how to take a test all day and leave the lessons for the kids to learn on their own‼️☹️
Always surprises me that a huge segment of society really believes that the only motivation for an action is some sort of financial gain. Not specifically here in this strip (which just got me thinking of this) but everywhere… Doctors promoting covid vaccines, the Me too movement, BLM, etc, etc.
Throughout my school years, if the kids didn’t get the assigned work done in class or Study Hall, then we took it home to finish it! As for checking it, we’d exchange papers and the teacher would read off the correct answers. All the teacher had to do was put the grade on it going by how many red check marks, (meaning wrong) were on the paper.
I’ve taught for over 20 years after being in the “real world” for 15. I always try to give the kids time in class to work on any assignment. I know my classes are not the only ones they have and family time, (and down time) is important as well. And no, I do not “teach to the test”, I teach the subject matter and try to make it pertain to life.

I guess Red’s school needs more snow before it can take a snow day. Definitely not set in Seattle.

Well, the level of homework assigned could make one checkbox on the annual performance evaluation.

Finland has one of the highest standing education standards globally. And without driving children to suicide like in Korea and Japan. No homework.
