When we first moved in we had a large skylight built in our living room ceiling with a shelf underneath for potted plants. It wasn’t long before we realized that hauling in a ladder to reach up and water the plants over our heads was a pain. They also kept getting infested with little bugs. Then the Loma Prieta earthquake happened. The ceramic pots didn’t fall, but it scared us enough that we threw out the plants and got some plastic plants in fake basket planters. They’re harmless if they fall. You can’t tell they’re fake from a distance. We often get compliments on them.

My GF used to check the national weather report every morning and only water her cactuses when it rained in Phoenix.

For years I kept a cactus on a furniture in my house and forgot to water it. It’s one of those ball-shaped cacti, but as it grew without water it developped a long, dry point. A day I decided to put it with the other plants and water it regularly. Now it has a strange look because the base is wide, then it has a long and narrow center and the point that has grown out is spherical. It looks like a gym weight with spikes.

There’s the green thumb, the black thumb, and now we have the dreaded Moondog thumb.

Prince Harry says his great aunt, Princess Margaret, has a frown that would kill a house-plant.

Moondog, “Bringer of Death!” to all plants!

My guilt is probably over-watering; that seems to be what finally killed the vine that had survived several years beside my desk….
