    The Feds decided to do a controlled burn in the Pecos wilderness near Hermit’s Peak. All is good they said, the weather is within parameters they said; in response to locals begging them not to burn because the weather was not favorable. Well, I am sure you can guess what happened next…

    A few years ago, a wildfire was heading straight for a town near me (I was under pre-evacuation orders). What stopped it and allowed the fire fighters to get it out was the fact that town had had several prescribed burns earlier and the wildfire had no fuel. Yes, every so often a prescribed burn escapes and that’s what you hear about in the news but overall prescribed burns do great good in stopping wildfires.
