Even when there isn’t a curve, a straight C student is usually someone who may not be proficient and/or gaining proficiency the way the teacher likes, but can keep up with the scores and benchmarks of those learning. The script saves time and ink from filling in each assessment category and a comment… so the teacher may be burnt out and also just going through the motions for her LOL.
that’s why I got good grades in PE – no talent but lots of hustle. and we won’t even talk about my regular ed classes. they were long before the pass/fail/participation stupidity they have today.
Parents, be prepared. The day is coming (sooner than you realize) that this IS the type of report card you will see. No grades, don’t want to make the snowflakes uncomfortable.
A first grader took home a report card that was a disappointment for his parents except that the teacher had written a note at the bottom that said, “Trying.” When the next report card came, it had a note saying, “Very trying.”
Reminds me of the scene at the end of The Terminator where Sarah Connor is in Mexico and the kid tries to sell her a Polaroid photo he took of her, claiming that his father will beat him if he doesn’t sell it for five American dollars. Sarah replies “Pretty good hustle, kid” before offering him four.
Perhaps this is a reference to the song but I think not. Tbh, I doubt good ole Chuck Schulz ever heard of the song. “Good hustle” is a sports reference. It’s what coaches say to players who aren’t great but at least seem to be trying. The Hustle was a great song though, at least we thought so when we were kids. (I haven’t heard it in years.) My big sis had me and my little sis doing hustle-dance moves down in the basement circa 1975.

Why should Sally get any grades? She does the minimum to slide by. In a very real sense she’s “hustling” her teachers.

Sally must be attending Pete Rose Elementary School.

Your parents will never believe that you didn’t eat the real report card and replace it with a hastily-created fake.

They don’t give grades in kindergarten, only things like “satisfactory”, “good”, and so on.

They were allowed to do that on report cards?
