My grandmother used ginger ale to treat me when I had nausea, and the Vicks VapoRub went as two small dabs into each nostril. It worked extremely well as a decongestant like that. I was totally grossed out when I found out at a later age that people actually put that gunk on their chests. Yuck.

My Grandfather, when ill with chest or head colds, would EAT Vicks Vaporub, using a toothpick yo scoop out small dabs.
Always grossed me out, although my Mother also put small dabs of Vicks in each nostril when any of us kids were sick.
