My mom’s technique in the family dime store was kind of like that except that she had a way of saying insulting things in a sweet tone of voice that were too subtle for the vast majority of raging loonies to understand. She learned it from being a nurse.
Yep, I did this too. My favorite (and a favorite of coworkers to watch) was to gently put my hand on their arm, look at them sincerely, and say in the most sickening sweet voice “Oh, I am so sorry. I sure hope I didn’t ruin your whole entire day!”. OMG, they would get so PO’d, but they knew I beat them. My coworkers in the background, holding their mouths, trying to cover their laughs. IT was beautiful! ; )
