Pett seems to be making the point that those who want us to be fearful often point at “them” as suitable to be feared. Conflate that with the unfortunate English pronoun situation where many pronouns just DO indicate gender… so folks seem to have settled on “they/them” as a way to avoid gendered pronouns. Which is confusing to everybody in some contexts… and a convenient target for anger from those who want to be angry.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but weren’t “they/them/their/they’re” used at one time as a “universal” pronoun set for people we could not identify specifically as male or female (as in we didn’t know)?

IT’S OUTRAGE I TELL YOU. I’m just saying, somebody needs to look into this. Many people assure that it is true and verified. They are coming for your _________. We must react hastily, no time for discussion. /s

“They/Them has meant a lot of things over the years…”

Like a certain other word, “they” (and its declensions) used to simply identify someone(s), but now various individuals and groups are using that word to express offense_. That being the case, should we now ban its use and force people to say "_the th-word" instead?
