My granddaughter picks a flower from her yard every morning, but by the time she gets to school most of the petals have fallen off for some reason….

I loved those plants as a kid.

To me they were a sign of spring—meaning school would soon be out for summer vacation!!

Kind of brings back memories. My first bunch of flowers I gave my mom on Mothers Day were a bouquet of dandelions I picked myself from the back yard. How nice of Mom to put them in a vase with water in them and put them on the dining room table that night.

I just picked a bunch of pu$$y willows (Gocomics censored the actual word) for my mother last week. I’m a 51 year old guy. You’re never too old to pick pu$$y willows for your mom.

That isn’t where I thought the comic was headed. I thought April was going to plant the branches so they’d grow into a cat.

“Aww, isn’t they cute? I’m gonna take them home and hug them and kiss them and squeeze them with all my heart and be such a great friend and……and for some reason they all fell off.”

Anyone else have this poem from childhood running through their brain? “I know a little pushycat, Her coat is silver grey. She lives down in the meadow, Not very far away. She’ll always be a pushy, she’ll never be a cat. She is a pushy willow- Now what do you think of that?”

Growing up, our neighbor had a pu$$y willow tree in her back yard. It was also a habitat for the brown recluse spider, so she had to have it removed.

They must have been almost ready to drop if a four year old kid can “pet” them off the branch.

I’ve only seen one a long time ago. My great aunt had a branch in a vase. I don’t think it grows around here.

As soon as I saw this, Gordon Lightfoot came to mind..“Pussywillows, cattails, soft winds, and roses…”
