It’s nice to be old and not care about stuff like this anymore. In fact, I get a kick out of buying second-hand/thrift stuff. Leaves more money for my hobbies!
I’m so glad my kids are out of that age, and now they are the ones having to deal with their kids wanting to “be cool” and “everyone does it” crowd.
I still have the lunch pails that came with thermoses which my kids used for their lunches, and in that time the water fountain at school was their hydration station. I remember that we used to get a letter at the beginning of every year not to send water in plastic bottles to school with the kids, as those bottled water cases were just coming into vogue.
I sympathize, though, with today’s parents when kids “have to have” something just because others have it, even a lowly water bottle.
Even in my middle school days, I really don’t care about expensive stuff. I don’t even want flashy stuff like Rolexes (I can admire them but I generally prefer cheaper watch brands like Casio). My family is pretty frugal, especially myself, which is why i don’t have that “I want that brand because everyone in my school had one” mentality.
I do admit 60 bucks doesn’t sound THAT bad though. Yeah, I know it’s a lot but it doesn’t seem to break the bank to me.

It’s funny how kids in school will obsess over anything except school.

Betcha anything that most of the kids in school do the exact same thing.

I was never a school bully, but I definitely would’ve beaten up anyone who paid $60 for a #$%*ing water bottle.
