They had made up for the lack of story with both the special effects and the volume. Then again, some people seem to like to watch some movies only for the special effects. And, like with music, some seem to think that the more volume there is, the better it is.
Brings to mind our viewing of the latest rendition of “Dune, part 1”. The dialogue was buried under the background noise and blurred by the actors’ stage whispers and sloven diction; it was about 90% unintelligible. As if that wasn’t aggravating enough, the chest pumping loudness of the other sound track effects (also noise) was positively painful. This seems to be something that the director Villeneuve likes a lot — he used the same gambit in his other work, particularly “Bladerunner, 2049.” One is advised to watch the DVD version of both movies, if said DVD has subtitles.

The “volume” is what keeps me out of theatres. I want to hear.. not feels the music.

Theaters have to time movies so that both movies are having loud effects at the same time so that you don’t hear it through the wall.
