Miles Curtis Wallace is doomed by Gene, but it’s more likely Gene will be chewed out by Donna for having bought the thing in the first place without her consent.
Did the last panel remind anyone else of the “Leave It To Beaver” episode about the boys being told that they weren’t allowed to play with a bat and ball near the house?
See folks, this is what we in the literary business call a “Chekhov’s Gun”: you don’t show a fancy TV and a kid warned to stay away from said fancy TV without showing a broken fancy TV and a panicking kid several scenes later.
The icing on the cake here would be if in the next strip Donna somehow reprimanded Gene for being a bit much on the TV, Gene agreeing and deciding to buy Miles something nice to make up for it, like say, a cake, and then he comes home to open the front door and see, well, all of this.
The technology is so random in this comic. There’s no social media or smartphones but there are big screen TVs but not ones with screens that wouldn’t be cracked by a football. mIn the history of TVs has there ever been one that would have the screen broken by a football?
Cathode ray tubes were a lot tougher than that. I found one in the dump once and tried to break it. I threw a piece of pipe at the face of it like a spear, and it just bounced off. That pipe weighed about 10 pounds, and I threw it hard several times, but it couldn’t do the job.

But for heaven’s sake, who would think of playing football in the living room and in that risk zone?

Does the expression “dead meat” mean anything to these guys? It better because that’s what they are when Dad sees this. After he stops crying that is.

Miles, you are so dead.

This is sure to lead to a funeral: either dad has a heart attack, or he kills Miles. Okay, maybe not…

Run away and start living in the woods seems the only logical solution.

Wonder what one of those big-screens cost back then? (1984, say)

Maybe Kevin will admit to it. All Gene could do is ban him for life.

How old is this comic? The large screen TV in the last panel looks like the 46 inch rear projection TV I had in the 90s!

Why is the TV smoking if it wasn’t turned on?
