It’s baseball. The only way it is any fun is when playing it. (Forgive me, North American friends, but that’s only my subjective opinion. I tried but could never stand watching a whole baseball match. But playing it is a lot of fun.)
She has a point. With extra things that don’t fall under the umbrella of things you must do (be polite, don’t steal, brush your teeth) extra curricular activities should be discussed with your child. You might suggest they try it, but to force them is beyond a parents pay grade!

He can hit, but can he catch or throw? Those definitely add to the enjoyment of the sport.
