As the various AI programs have demonstrated such technology absorbs our own fears and prejudices, it seems that given sufficient power and resources to accumulate power and resources it would quickly turn into that which we fear because that is who we are.
The fear comes from knowing that technology is a “multiplier” of existing social problems. Remember when spammers had to come knock on your door? I do.
I think tech fear is a combination of fear of the unknown, e. g, the black tape over the VCR display, and not realizing that evil uses of tech are conceived of and directed by humans.
