Static is prevalent in dry environments. I lived in the Pacific Northwest for better than a decade. When I drove back across the country I left the humid environment behind and relearned how annoying static shocks and hair after pulling off a sweater can be.

The old days before fabric softener. However, you don’t get static cling until you put clothes in the dryer.
