Republicans have NOT lost their way! Not even a little bit.
Republicans NEVER reduce spending. NEVER.
What they DO when they are in charge, is to cut taxes for the rich and for patriotic multinational corporations without reducing spending. This results in the deficit exploding. This in turn skyrockets the national debt.
.
When they are not in charge, they complain bitterly about excess spending, and claim that spending is the sole cause of the deficit and the debt.
.
No one can identify spending reductions by a Republican president in the last 50 years. Because it never happened.
Itâs one more âissueâ for Republicans to weaponize and LIE about.
.
BTW, Carmen, there is plenty of room for you in the Democratic party. Actual conservatives, who accept facts and donât LIE about everything would be welcome. Someone who claims to want a balanced budget would be able to understand the role of taxation, including payroll taxes and sales taxes and their effect on people. They may want rich people to pay a lower tax rate than middle class people, but at least they would admit it and would not have to LIE about it.
Iâve maintained for years that both major parties are in a process of deterioration and dissolution. The disintegration of the Democrat party will be faster, and messier, because they are essentially a loose aggregation of entitlement oriented identity groups which readily turn on each other. Eventually â and inevitably â new parties will arise. I voted third party in each of the last two presidential elections.
@Holden Awn: In the 1980s there was a quote, âThe Democrats are 33 agendas in search of a party.â Wish I could remember the source. Anyway, they have changed a bit, but seem as solid (or not) as they were 40 years ago. It may be messy, but it isnât fast. Seems more like the status quo for Democrats.
This hits too close to home. There wasnât a place for me with the Râs, lately no place for me with the Dâs. Next stop is the Gâs, who are equally as Crazy as Lâs.
Unease with Republicans rose for my contemporaries during the Reagan years, and was amplified by both Bushes. I suppose that Trump is amplifying that effect for the Millennials and Gen ZâŠ

P&F support has largely shifted to the Greens, itâs a quite similar agenda.

Now that the debt ceiling circus is over, what will be the next circus?
Who of the 71 republicans who voted against the bill will call for a vote?

If there is room for Joe Manchin and AOC there is room for anyone who still believes in our democratic republic.

Stanti, the GQP could work to pull the Q out, and people work on their courage to face truth and inevitable change.

Factionalism is anathema to competent governance. The founders knew it.
That being said, republicans have completely lost their grip on reality, the majority of whom still believe that the election was stolen from trump.
