When I was a kid, I thought that Ethel, Bea, and Daisy May (aka Granny) looked old. Now at 60+ I think they’re hot.

Irene Ryan started filming for Beverly Hillbillies at the tender young age of 60. She had to have a lot of makeup to age her for the part.

It’s funny watching shows now that I watched in the 60’s and the characters I thought were old, some were older than my parents were at the time. Now they’re younger than me. I remember my mom thinking Archie Bunker was cute and I thought no way! Because I was a teenager and he was around 50. But I’ve watched that show in syndication and now on dvd and I do think he had nice eyes. What’s sad is knowing that just about everyone on these shows from the 60’s and 70’s has passed. Everyone from the Mary Tyler Moore show has passed away now. It makes it bittersweet to watch now.

I remember seeing the original Star Trek as an adult and thinking “those guys were hot in their form-fitting uniforms!”.When I was a girl in the 60’s, the hormones had not kicked in yet!

Used to think Thelma Lou from the Andy Griffith Show was this frumpy little mouse who only existed because the standard sitcom plot ideas would often require Andy and Barney to each have a girlfriend, and she’s the best someone like Barney could do.

Then one day I was watching a rerun and it hit me: she was a real hottie, and way better than Barney could get in real life.

For Granny Clampett in her prime, check out a movie called “Reveille with Beverly” that was made early in WWII and stars Ann Miller, with Irene Ryan as the comic relief. You can find the whole thing on YouTube.
