The only way that I would buy something deeply on discount for a gift is if I pass the savings onto the gift recipient. I usually have a dollar amount in mind for what I want to spend, and if I find the perfect gift for less, then I’ll buy a little something extra to go with it.One time my daughter got a birthday gift of clothing from a classmate that didn’t fit her, so I took it back to the store with the gift receipt. I was told that the most I could get in return was $1.99 (not joking). Good morning, AaronClaus and Susan! Hello to Nancy, gmforde, rgcviper, Billy, KFG, lindz.coop and anyone else who comes here today!@ GsMom – Thank you for your sweet and understanding note yesterday. What you said was absolutely right (unfortunately)… I’ll get through it, but not fun in the meantime. :-)Have a great day, Cathy nuts!!

I got nothing to say. Cathy short-circuited my brain. I’m numb from the ears downward. Curse you Cathy.

Wow how did it get to be 10:30 and I’m only just replying? (Well that’s easy—I didn’t get my butt out from under the covers until 9:59.) I can’t wait to have a life and real responsibilities again.

Morning lightenup. A day at a time—no stressing. Hi Susan when you arrive. Afternoon / evening Mom!. :-D

    Happy Birfday lindz.coop

With the economy being as bad as it is and with so many people losing their jobs and their homes . . . I’d feel badly if someone spent more money on me then they could really afford just because they didn’t want to look “cheap” where I was concerned (I’d also feel badly if anyone I gave an inexpensive but heart-felt gift to felt that way about me). There’s a reason someone came up with the old saying, “It’s the thought that counts.” Too bad there are people out there that are so materialistic that anything less than “the best” is considered an insult. I try to get the special people on my list something nice to show them how much I love them but I don’t work outside my home so I can’t exactly afford to get myself into debt up to my eyeballs in order to do that. All I can do is spend what I can afford and hope they understand.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LINDZ.COOP!!!!!

lightenup: You’re welcome. Everyone needs a little support and understanding when the times are tough. I know it’s probably difficult right now, but try not to think about the outside world and all its problems and just try to take comfort and sanctuary within your own home and family instead. As long as you’ve got that, nothing else in the whole world matters.

Good afternoon, AaronClaus, Billy Kringle, K.F.G., Susan, rgcviper, gmforde, MaiTai (Maia) and all the rest of the Cathy fanatics joining us here today. As always, nice to “see” you all.

    :-)

How can anyone object to getting a nice item for less than the retail price? If I have to choose between paying full price for something with retail value of $25 bucks or get them something nicer on sale for the same amount, I’m always going to go for the nicer item. And anyone who though less of me for getting them the best I could afford, even if it means shopping sales, is too ungrateful to deserve a gift anyway. It isn’t the dollar amount, it’s the thought behind it, and if a person judges me for shopping sales they don’t really love me, they love stuff, and will not be getting anything from me in the future.

Oh Cathy. Stressing over nothing. I’m one of those people that could care less about how much you spent on a gift. Its the thought that counts.

Hi AaronClaus, lightenup, Gretchen’sMom, BillyKringle, and all the other Cathy lovers/ haters.

I have to agree with friend Aaron about Cathy just making my mind short circuit. Maia is right too—self-inflicted just makes it worse.

Gift giving around our house is easy. Someone is always going to buy us the latest book from our favorite authors. These days, it’s a gift card from Apple because we’re switching to iBooks. The only thing I really want is to help Aaron get is his sight back. Everything else is fluff at this point.

Happy Birthday Lindz.Coop Sounds like you have a great husband.

Hi fellow Cathyites. It was nice coming home from a too-busy day at work to my favorite community. :-)

Y’know, I never noticed until a few weeks ago how often the “obligatory eye roll” comes into play here in the “Cathy” comic..Although, Cathy kinda has a point tonight. Kinda..’Evening, everyone.

Hi to all the Cathy nuts!!

OMG!! Thanks rgcviper, KFG, Billy, lightenup, Aaron, GretchensMom and any I missed for the Happy Birthday wishes. So sweet of you. The day was mixed — our kitten had to be rushed into surgery this morning because he swallowed something they couldn’t make out on an X-ray, so they found it, got it and he’s resting comfortably at the vets tonight. (It was just some leaves, but he was choking, hence the concern). We did find out he would be ok in time to go out to dinner for the birthday, so all’s well that ends well. As the other saying goes “life is what happens to you when you are making other plans.”

My husband and I go out together to the outlet stores and get each other gifts — such fun to see who can get the best bargain. Neither of us minds how much the item costs as long as it fits the need.
