Believe it or not, Cathy’s right. In summer, the thermostat should be set at at least 78 degrees in order to save energy, and at 65 in the winter. It is never supposed to be at 68 degrees year round.

I remember Jimmy Carter decreeing that, and look where that got him.

You can always put on a jacket if you are cold—if you are hot, you can be naked and still be hot.

    I haven’t been cold since I was 45.

When I worked I would tell people I dress for the weather, inside and out! i used to work at one place where my desk was directly in front of the ac unit. I brought in a sweater and was fine most of the time. If I needed to warm up or thaw out, I would go outside during my breaks. I’m surprised that she didn’t see her breath. Then later in life I had my hot flashes to keep me warm. lol

I’m just waiting for some genius to come along who will make my fireman’s gear shoot cool air across my buttsky so I won’t melt when I’m firefighting.

Morning Susan already arrived. Afternoon (?) lightneup who I missed yesterday. Aftern AnonaMona loved what you said about being apart and together yesterday. :-D Hi Mom! tomorrow so you know I was thinking about you today.

Ha, I can relate to this. My office is 75º year round. Most women bring sweaters or blankets. The lady who sits next to me wears a full coat everyday. She feels ridiculous wearing a coat when it’s 110º outdoors! Whereas most men use a fan because they feel hot. I’m a Canadian man… it practically takes glacial ice to get me to feel cold!

I so agree with Cathy on this one! Even turning it down a degree or so would really help, and there would be some energy conservation as a bonus. I’d even be happy with 75 degrees, the way it is at Wolf Emperor’s office. As some have said, maybe I’ll be happy when I go through menopause and am hot all the time. Until then, brrrrrr!!!I’m running late today, so let’s see if I can get everyone…Hello to legaleagle, FlyerTom, Susan, TheIrishInquisition, Doc Toon (good to see you posting here recently!), PhoebeDog, Gregg, Wolf Emperor and gmforde!Hi Aaron!!!!! I’m sorry I missed yesterday! We had lil lightenup’s birthday party and I was running around getting ready for it. When it was over, I mostly collapsed and had no energy to get up and go to the computer. Hugs to you, Billy and LMB! Hope you all are doing well with your PT, separation and upheaval that’s going on with you guys!Hello also to GsMom, KFG, rgcviper, lindz.coop, hendelca, Mona, serenasakitty, kittycatpawsare, soonergal, lippyfish, Mai Tai, Willi Nilli, mollie, AnonaMona, Bronzepony, simpsonfan2, Hobbes and all the other Cathy nuts rolling around here today!

My first thought on this one was that Cathy had totally lost it. Probably still true, but …

After reading some of the comments, I see she kinda has a point. What’s the world coming to?

    Happy Sunday, all.

We keep the house at 75 day and 71 night during the summer – 71 day and 68 night during the winter. Nothing to do with energy conservation, that is the range we find comfortable – especially for sleeping. Hmmm – just realized I said the temps in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius – probably because I am bilingual for temperatures – I prefer Fahrenheit for warm temps and Celsius for cold. Weird but I know how hot 85F is but have difficulty understanding 30C. Similarly, -10C I know how cold it is but 14F I am not sure about. Strange how the mind works! Feels funny posting in the middle of a Sunday afternoon! Decided to stay in town today to catch up on work that piled up while we were away. Good hot afternoon fellow Cathyites (unless it is raining where you are!)

Here in Scotland air conditioning is almost unheard of. Anything over about 64 F wipes me out – not that I like the cold either! But we’ve had a pretty cold, damp year of it up to now.

I don’t like going into shops where they have too much heating so that the staff can wear light summery clothes, when the customers are coming in with coats and boots on. It makes me walk out again, quick smart.

It’s boiling hot outside right now—and my workplace is like an enormous ice cube. If we had a mascot, it should be a penguin.

Amazing enough, a/c at work is just right all season but heat is a bit warm over the winter months. I work with cell cultures etc in a cooler within my lab. At home, Aaron and I keep the a/c at 80 day and night to ward off the steamy humidity. Winter temp is about 68 day and night, because it’s comfortable for LMB. Aaron and I also have an impressive sweater collection though he still goes around barefoot year-round.

Like Aaron said, firefighting is just murder in the hot of summer and in the too cold winter. But his comment about cooll air across his ‘buttsky’ still made me laugh out loud.

Mom and I were just making out a grocery list for tomorrow. Here’s my dire need for this week:

    And the recipe: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/photo/Peach-and-Blackberry-Shortcakes-with-Blackberry-Cream-235262

I showed the recipe to Mom and asked what she’d remake it to be healthier. Filling calls for 1/3 cup of sugar. She’d use 1/4 cup instead. The blackberry cream calls for 3/4 cup sugar. Drop that to 1/3 cup, maybe even 1/4 cup — we’ll have to try it. The fruits should be sweet enough without all that sugar. No need to make your teeth ache.

Friend lindz.coop what do you say? I know you’re healthy-inspired. Do you think cutting down on or even using a sweet subsitute (honey also just came to mind) would make this as good as the original recipe?

When I still worked I was told by the women in the office the room temperature had to be kept low for the computers. They used to come to my department to thaw out.
