Man: We're willing to give you a $2,800 trade-in on your car, Cathy! Cathy: $2,800?? Are you joking?? Are you out of your mind??!! How gullible do I look?? How uninformed do you think I am?? Do you think I haven't done my research?? Do you think I didn't study the charts? $2,800?? HAH! HAH!! Man: Feel free to advertise on your own and spend the next six weekends camped by the phone. Cathy: $2,800 it is. Man: Another "consumer reports" aficionado struck down by the cheap thrill of instant gratification.

It’s not that hard to sell your own car, especially if it’s one that’s in demand. I even sold a Sentra that didn’t run very well for $500, and that was in the 90s when this strip originally ran. I guess they thought they could fix it or use it for parts. Don’t give in, Cathy!Good morning, simpsonfan, *Susan and Aaron! Hello to GsMom, Billy, KFG, rgcviper, lindz.coop, hendelca, Mona, serenasakitty, kittycatpawsare, gmforde, soonergal, lippyfish, Mai Tai, Willi Nilli, mollie, AnonaMona, Bronzepony, simpsonfan2, Hobbes and all the other Cathy nuts rolling around here today!

Too late lightenup she gave in. $2800 wouldn’t be bad, but I have to wonder what her current ride looks like and why she thought $2800 was lowball. Hmmm, never do understand female-type women anyway. ‘Cept Mom! of course because she thinks I’m cool and she might even be right.
Welcome back mollie05. Yup sure is Wednesday when Susan is here very early. Six hours ago, amazingly enough, I was sleeping very soundly. Hi fellow Cathyites. LMB and I have already been to town and back before it rains.

With all that’s going on in the world today, I don’t think I would be comfortable selling a car on my own. It means meeting a stranger somewhere and trusting him or her to drive your car to test it … and bring in back! I’ve heard some real horror stories about that!

My husband is the absolute bomb when it comes to car shopping! He’s never been held hostage by a car salesman a day in his life! I’ve seen him in action when it comes to buying cars and he’s very good at making them give in on the options he wants and at the price he wants to pay. He’s also walked away and bought vehicles elsewhere when he felt like the dealership was trying to cheat him. He won’t do the trade-in deals either because he says those things never work out in favor of the customer — only the dealership. We haven’t bought any new vehicles in 13 years and both our cars still seem to currently be working okay (although he just changed the ABS sensor fuse (or whatever it’s called) on the Explorer a few days ago) but because of their ages, it probably won’t be too terribly long before one — or maybe even both of them — will have to be replaced and when they do, he’ll do the research, he’ll know exactly what they should really cost and then he’ll get the absolute best deal that he can.
Aaron: Not just cool but awesomely cool!!!!! ;-)

I’m like Mr. Mom! — but rarely have had to walk away. I buy only VW Jetta’s and only from the VW dealer in my home town. We have a long history. I know what he pays and he knows I don’t want BS. Treat a person fairly and you got a quality relationship.
Mom! Aaron is awesomely cool? Wow. Who woulda known?

Hi Cathyites!! That’s not very much — they are offering us $4000 for our ‘05 Mini that has 124,000 miles on it. And we have folks knocking at the door to buy the PT Cruiser. We weren’t sure we wanted to sell it (cause we thought my nephew might want it), but the engine is beyond repair and it’s just not worth it for a car w/ 185,000 miles on it even tho the body is still perfect. Like I said — we run em into the ground.

Well, I’D be happy to take that free $2,800 off your hands, Cathy. Just sayin’.
And, look: she’s even rolling her eyes today! (In panel 2)
But, not to worry, K.F.G. … plenty of eye-rolls to go around, for you, and everyone!

About two years ago I went to several dealerships thinking it might be time to change my 6 year-old Skoda Octavia. I pondered all the salespeople’s offers … and yes, I am driving an 8 year old Skoda Octavia to full satisfaction. I vowed to them I would not change cars till this one falls piece by piece on the road (and, barring accidents, it can last me a good 8 more years …)
