After my knee surgery I was on the floor doing my physical therapy so when I was doneā¦ā¦ yup! Home alone and no plan on how to get up off the floor. Had to butt scoot to the couch to use it to get me up. Tru story!
It happened to a lot of us during Covid restrictions. I have lost 40 pounds and worked on my thigh muscles as my doctor suggested since but I still prefer to navigate to one of the four corners of the County indoor lap pool to climb out. Some things do not work like they once did when you are older than the president. Someties dizziness after swiming a mile complicates things.
Yes I will admit to doing this because of Acute Pain . That pain was the reason that I started going for a daily walk 13 years ago. The walking does help ;-)
I know the feeling. Whenever I take a fall while wearing my prosthetic leg I need to take a minute and think how Iām going to get back up, especially if thereās nothing to hold onto.
Iāve never had a problem getting up from the floor/ground and at 81, I think I am doing quite well. Donāt have a problem getting down either. I have exercises that I do for my back and hip (it helps all other parts of my body as well) and they require me to lie down on the floor. Have done them since I was 48 and they really work.
I hit the ground on occasion (that one way ticket ride onā¦off.. my young horses). I used to just bounce back up and go on my merry way. Now, i landā¦ and poolā¦ Have to see what still works before i even think about getting up.
Rarely sit on the floor ā and careful not to fall. But sometimes I do have to sit on the floor ā such as when husband decides to look through ALL of his DVDs in the fake linen chest (front drops down and drawers pull out to hold DVDs ā husband built to hide the DVDs in our 18th century revival living room ā decorated by him). I do have an easy way to get up ā he gives me his hand and helps me get up!

There are these back exercises that I do that requires being on the floor. They are helpful. But then I wrench my back out trying to get up.

I knelt down in the yard and figured Iād have to crawl all the way to the house. Both knees are bad and I do not want any more surgeries.

This is true. Itās easy for me to get to the floor, all I have to do is fall. Itās the getting up again that takes some thought.

Roll over on your stomach, push up & back to get on your knees, put one foot on the floor/ground, and stand up.

Before you sit on the floor, bring a chair with you. not to sit on, but to pull yourself up with.

I saw a gizmo in Amazon designed to help people get up in situations like this.
