Wait for it. The way things are going, it’ll burn itself down soon enough.

In many towns in Oklahoma, it’s legal to buy fireworks just illegal to shoot them off. I wonder how many people who are complaining about the cost-of-living are buying fireworks for the few seconds that they last.

I love how the dimbulbs who like blowing stuff up bang on about their “patriotism” and other jingioistic blah-blah when they really just like blowing stuff up. If they were actually patriotic, or just decent people, they would honor American veterans by NOT making places like my neighborhood sound like war zones and triggering their PTSD.

I do realize this is a terrible thing to say, but, the best way for these dim-witted a $ $ hats is for many, many of them to blow limbs off their bodies. That’s still not a guarantee that they’ll learn a lesson from it. Also, China thanks you for your generous contribution to their economy…

““Yesterday the 4th of July, being the anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America, was celebrated in this city with demonstrations of joy and festivity,” reported the Pennsylvania Evening Post on July 5, 1777. “About noon all the armed ships and gallies in the river were drawn up before the city, dressed in the gayest manner, with the colors of the United States and streamers displayed.”

After each ship’s cannon fired a 13-gun salute (in honor of the 13 colonies), the festivities continued, including an elegant dinner, a military demonstration and a performance by a Hessian band. “The evening was closed with the ringing of bells,” the Evening Post reported, “and at night there was a grand exhibition of fireworks (which began and concluded with thirteen rockets) on the Commons, and the city was beautifully illuminated.”

Before I retired I had a 40 yr career in the mining industry. I would often get the question,“Why did you go into mining!!??” Hey, you get paid good money to blow stuff up and play with really big trucks. What’s not to like?

Good point, Mr. Alcaraz. Many of us feel that it would be safer (personally and societally) if the situation were reversed: fireworks good, guns no good.

Actually this is from personal experience: I once attended a holiday party at a friend’s apartment. The friend and most of the attendants were gay. Someone started shooting fireworks by the pool area, and soon I was facing a policeman. Given the aggressiveness of the local constabulary and the “persuasion” of the guest list, I feared we were all in for major legal trouble, and didn’t know how to answer the cop’s question about what was going on. He could tell, and helped me out: “Fireworks, okay. Guns, not okay.” I assured him it was fireworks, and a simple warning was sufficient.

Some guy in Cary, Illinois just put himself in the hospital with an injury to his face, because he didn’t follow the basic rules of big fireworks. Doubt he’ll be the only one, and will happen in so many other states as well.

Basic rule of fireworks. If it doesn’t go off. Wait 10 minutes. If it still doesn’t go off drown it with water. Or if you don’t want to wait, just drown it with water. Nope, he did the normal dumb thing, by going over and looking down the tube when it didn’t go off as fast as he thought it should. He’s in critical condition. Hopefully, he will be all right, but he definitely fits the saying, “Stupid should hurt.” Bet he never does that again. I hope law enforcement has the sense to charge him for his violation. Fireworks, especially commercial grade fireworks are illegal for everyone, but the hired professionals in Illinois.

Even, with this weekends weather, things are still really dry here. I can only hope no one lights my yard and/or house/garage on fire with their illegal fireworks.

It’s a rule in just about every city here. Which is routinely ignored.
