I’d like to see the Q-Pubs’ solution to the root problem.

Look, being a progressive I am not Joe Biden’s biggest fan as far as his history concerning financial institutions and bankruptcy reform which he pushed through in the 2000’s to jam the citizen and protect the bankers but one cannot in good faith blame him for SCOTUS burying his loan forgiveness concept.

While getting 10 or 20K shaved off of one’s overall debt may not get many out of the hole they are in it was a good gesture and a token of goodwill on his part. The fact that the financial conglomerates and certain states who guaranteed certain loans might have to eat this cost is the reason why SCOTUS did what they did, they care more for the 1%ers and conglomerates than the people of our nation.

If states need to generate revenue to make up for payments from forgiven loans perhaps they should tax the rich and go after the financial institutions and other conglomerates which have not been paying their fair share of taxes for quite a long time!

He might do what your man Trump did, Lisa. He might just instruct the IRS to add another tax credit to help wipe out the loans owed. When Trump came to power, he supposedly simplified the tax forms. But, all he did was make me pay more taxes from my meager retirement income. I went from paying no taxes, to paying around $250 more. I guess all those One Percenters needed more help not paying their taxes.

For the middle class, the lifetime earnings with a college degree far outweigh the loan burden.

Typical earnings for bachelor’s degree holders are $36,000 or 84 percent higher than those whose highest degree is a high school diploma. College graduates on average make $1.2 million more over their lifetime.

At least he’s trying. I am not in the majority here, but I believe there are parts of our society that benefit from capitalism and some that do not such as healthcare and education. The market model produces more and more problems as time goes on.

Republicans want the world to blow up in your face, why would you vote for that?

Too many of the schools students attended were nothing but scams, offering substandard training that didn’t prepare their students for jobs in the fields they said they would qualify for. State attorney generals should have taken action, shut those schools down, tried to force refunds long before this.

Most advanced countries have free education.

Gosh, so many folks are quite miserly. Pull your self up by the bootstraps. Don’t have boots? Tough. The American Dream is only available to those who can afford it.

It’s the American way. Be responsible for your own debts.

I’m all in favour of practical education. After I left college, I spent about ten years making my living with a practical skill I had picked up in high school. I have great admiration for people who can do practical things. But I also think there’s something wonderful about just wanting to know and understand the world. That kind of education doesn’t have to be restricted to people in the academic world. At the moment I’m going through physiotherapy after surgery, and my physiotherapist turns out to be fascinated by American history. He reads extensively and he poses really searching questions about history. He didn’t study any of that in college, he just wants to know. Yes, people have to learn how to make a living, and all the practical things that go with that, but let’s not forget just the wonder of knowing and understanding.

^ I think (and hope that) we all understand the joy of learning for its own sake. Where we differ is in this unusual belief that it’s someone else’s responsibility to pay for that which gives us our joy. It must come from some strange force that dissolves when you’re south of the 49th parallel.

^Learning is a joy, but it also produces citizens who are a benefit to the nation as a whole. That is why many European nations have planned carefully to make sure all citizens have educational opportunities, whether in apprenticeships or in universities and colleges.

People who owe money should pay their bills. Is that so hard to understand? Especially people who expect to make more money than other people. What’s next, free cars, free houses, free vacation homes? We, the taxpayers, can’t afford to have such an irresponsible government. And don’t say the rich will pay for it. They really aren’t that rich. The total wealth of all the billionaires in the country won’t come close to paying off the national debt. In some years, it won’t even cover the current deficit. You could look this up, you know. You do have the internet at your fingertips.

Yeah, you forgot the panel showing the Repubs sabotaging the plan. So, many of which took Government loans during Covid, that were ‘forgiven,’ with no plans to ever pay the money back. Something they did not even hesitate to vote yes on. Shame of their blatant selfishness.

Repuglicans have no solution to student debt because they don’t view it as a problem. The more uneducated, ignorant people in the population, the better the chances are for voting for them.

The “Independent State Legislature Theory” fizzled out but the “Major Questions Doctrine” hit a home run. Who cares if the legal reasoning is utter nonsense? Biden sure isn’t going to do anything about it.

This is a good lesson to learn: don’t borrow money you can’t pay back. It would help if our government learned this lesson also.

This cartoon hs nothing to do withTrump. Why can’t you get him off your mind? Biden knowsthis is not going to get what he wants, but he can string along the masses of educated youth who missed the lesson on assuming responsibility for paying back the loans that they signed a contract to pay. Where is this kind of thinking going to lead? What other debts will they expect someone else to pay for them?

Joe’s plan to buy off a few million young voters with “free” stuff at a cost to us of ONLY $400 Billion blew up. Oh well, he can come up with some more “gimmees”! That’s how he has stayed in politics for over 50 years!
