So glad my husband does know how to cook, although he did have some mishaps with it when we were still in college. I’ll never forget the vegetable soup with half a bottle of cloves in it (inedible) or the chili con carne with too much chilies in it (also inedible, even an extra can of beans couldn’t save it).
I do all my own cooking. I can’t get loose like many women and really get into it by making exotic dishes and baking cakes, cookies, and pies and stuff. But I can burn some pots! I keep stocked with the basics which is canned veggies, and meats mostly chicken. I love Angel Hair, too. A neighbor who was a widow, took me in when I was about 20 y/o when I was having problems with my parents and she showed me how to cook and wash clothes which later on, I came to regard as being showed how to survive which I will always be grateful to her! And I believe that lots of men get married because they do not know how to take care of themselves. Or they’re desperately in need of companionship. And I recently heard another man say this which makes perfect sense. Men on the average are physically attracted to women. He said however, that’s it’s better when a woman likes a guy because when it’s the other way around, guys put up with and deal with a whole lot immature female nonsense but when the woman likes and is attracted to a guy, she puts all of silly foolishness to the side or in her back pocket. But then again, it always depends on where you are and what city you’re from. Just talking from experience, Ms. Cat. Have a blessed!
My hubby could cook. He didn’t like my cooking, so he took over. When he would go on a hunting trip he’d line up cans of soup, bowls, spoons, and napkins for each day he’d be gone so I would eat. When he died, I really did eat canned soup for a long time, until I learned how to cook things I liked again (that he didn’t).
My husband is 3rd generation Italian-American. (I am Jewish-American from assorted Eastern European/Russia). I had to learn how to make “the gravy” (aka tomato sauce). I used to follow his directions exactly – and only canned tomatoes are used.
Over the decades it is has been changed a bit. For one thing we are both Type 2 Diabetics – so sugar is no longer added. He never seems to notice when I change something – the brand of tomatoes (from brand name to Walmart brand during the pandemic when could not get the brand name – and he was actually there when I bought them and we discussed it), the gradual decrease in sugar, etc. Lately he has been leaning away from making it with crushed tomatoes and preferring diced tomatoes.

He did it from scratch. He used a manual can opener. The one in his pocket knife.
