When I was in my senior year of high school and then while in college (lived at home) for the three years it took to graduate – my parents had an agreement with me that when I came home after they went to bed I would close their door so they would know I would home, after all – “how could they go to bed while I was out”. I did so diligently.
My parents bedroom was up a flight of stairs from the other bedrooms. One night I walked up the stairs to close the door and tripped and fell into their bedroom – they did not wake up at the noise of my falling down and screaming. I kept closing their door, but from then on I KNEW that they could and did fall asleep while I was out.
