Reminds me of “grotty” from “A Hard Day’s Night” (1963). An incognito George Harrison turns down a chance to meet fake (and fictional) pop star “Susan” remarking, “We think she’s grotty. When she comes on the telly we turn down the sound and say rude things.”
The only cooking video I ever saw was a half-hour show by Julia Child on how to cook eggs. I was quite eager to watch my first Julia Child show, and I thought that it would be quite simple, for I thought eggs were simple. I was very, very wrong. All I learned was that I would have to cook for months, or even years, before I could even begin to cook one of her ultra-fancy dishes. While that was pretty disappointing, it was also very instructive. So I do wonder a little about how people could be attracted to cooking videos.
There is an Aussie lady on YouTube who goes by Tigga Mac. She is great. Sometimes she makes and decorates cakes that look like packaged food from a grocery store and then goes to the store and puts it on the shelf and waits for the results. She is an expert decorator and does great work. She mostly does shorts, so not more than 2 – 3 minutes.
I’d always rather have pie than cake, but in the world of cakes always thought that fondant was more of a construction material that an edible component of cake… maybe a necessary evil if you want a certain look…

Grody? It’s been a while since I’ve heard that word. Never liked it much, even back then. I think I just said, “Gross.”

Grody! There’s a word I’d not heard in ages. Oh, and a perfect description of fondant too.

Productive would be making the cake ~ with or without the fondant. Then you and Dan could reap the benefits of your productiveness. Yum, cake!

Fondant not really edible. Even though it’s made from food.

My wife can’t get enough cake decorating videos either. What’s up with that? Myself, I’m not too fondant.

Fondant is a construction material sometimes confused with frosting.
