It is pretty funny that all the calls for a third party are always ONLY for president.
NEVER a third party for, say, for a Congressman, or the equivalent at the state level. Or maybe a state treasurer.
.
Democracy doesn’t happen by itself. It takes work. I’d be willing to bet that a substantial proportion of the people who long for a third party not only don’t investigate issues and down ballot candidates, but don’t even know who their Senators and their Congressman are.
I know how people feel, but I always vote 3rd party if the first two are unacceptable. Why? Because we should NEVER vote for “the lesser of two evils.” We MUST vote for “the one most qualified.” It really feels like the election system has been geared to work like a Las Vegas casino, and people forget the old rule: “The house always wins.” So get mad at me. Accuse me of this or that. Tell me I’m this kind of person. You can all eat me. Unlike you people, I can vote and sleep well at night and not feel like I need to take a cold shower.
One of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem
As long as you need a majority of the Electoral College to win the Presidency, you’re going to have two major parties. Three strong parties means that Congress picks the President. Both the Democrats and the Republicans are coalitions of smaller groups that have gotten together to get 50%.
I’m not sure if that’s going to last much longer, since the Republicans have decided to stop being a coalition and are driving out everyone who isn’t an extremist. But if they split, they’ll be replaced by another major party – the “New Whigs” or something.
The quickest way back to a healthy two party system is the electoral destruction of one of the two top contenders. If the choice is old democracy or old autocracy I will choose democracy 10 out of 10 times.

Do YOU actually want this guy to be president again?
“Incandescently stupid” – Trump’s aide states he had to “dumb” down notes, and “to draft national security memos at a first-grade reading level”
You would make a better president than that guy.
