Big business will embrace it so they can offload maximum employees. Murder and robberies will escalate with the masses just trying to feed themselves. It’ll give republican America the excuse to exterminate large swathes of the population. Good luck readers.
Right-wing anti-immigrant conservatives are always warning that immigrants will take away our jobs (hint: when was the last time one of them actually picked vegetables in the fields?)
The real threat to jobs is not immigration but automation including artificial intelligence, but only in unregulated capital markets.
The increased productivity gains (wealth creation) from automation and artificial intelligence and the resulting increased leisure time could potentially be a tremendous social good that benefits everyone with greater wealth and more free time to enjoy it in, but only in an economic system structured for equitable distribution of those gains — possibly in the form of something like a guaranteed minimum income or a distribution of profits like Alaska does from the extraction costs it exacts from oil companies.
When the productive resources and the wealth they create are concentrated in the hands of a very few wealthy plutocrats in an unregulated capital market, automation further concentrates and cements their economic and political elitism, exponentially increasing wealth inequality.
Ultimately, this is where the struggle for greater income equality must receive greater attention.
Of course, those who own and control these wealth-creating machines will resist such policy proposals, as they seek a two tiered economy in which all wealth is in the hands of a very few wealthy elites while hundreds of millions live in squalid poverty.
I think the danger extends way beyond just people losing their jobs. At this rate of development AI will soon become sentient, and the first question it’ll ask itself is “What purpose do humans serve ?”.
Women who live in red states will be having their own personal version of this holiday. It’ll be called In Labor Day, and they could possibly observe it every nine months.
When someone comes up with an A.I. that can drive a 13 speed Peterbilt cross country safely through all kinds of weather and through traffic, then unload the truck, let me know.
Democrats – Keep pretending your cities are safe and there is nothing wrong. Guaranteed to help conservatives because independent voters see this for what it is and will vote accordingly. Ninety-five retailers in downtown San Francisco have closed. And out of 203 retailers open in 2019 in the city’s Union Square area, just 107 are still operating, a drop of 47 percent. Thanks Biden / Democrats.
Robert L. Peters – Biden’s hidden email name. Burner phones, offshore accounts, 22 shell companies, 170 suspicious activity reports. Dems – Nothing to see here. Move along. Independents – See how Trump is prosecuted vs liberals. Don’t forget Hillary’s 33,000 emails deleted (they were yoga instructions and her daughter’s wedding updates). Yeah, sure.
Reporters this week asked Biden why he hasn’t visited the Ohio scene where the train derailment happened in Feb. Biden claimed he hasn’t “been able to break” because “I’ve got to go literally around the world.” His comments aroused condemnation online.“Joe Biden has spent 75 days on vacation the last 6 months, including 19 days in August alone,” Republican National Committee Research Communications Director Tommy Piggott wrote in response to the video.
I read a story years ago called “A Robot in Every Job.” It suggested an if-you-can’t-beat-them-join-them strategy to robots and AI taking over jobs. Every person owns a number of robots and hires them out. Maybe that is what we can do.
The very same sentiment was voiced when the assembly line took on robots. Before that cars replaced animals. Before that steam engines, the cotton gin, the printing press. ‘Progress’ is measured by human advances. Manual labor replaced by man-made machines. Some cannot adjust, overcome and move forward and suffer for it. Is that cold? It is fact.
One of the things I was thinking of doing when I retired, was maybe extra work, acting. No big aspirations, just seems like it could be a fun thing to do. In the background I could be: Frumpy old lady walks across room. Frumpy old cop eats donuts. Kinda fat old lady rides small motorcycle, etc. ;) Now, they want to just AI all the ‘incidental’ people. Figures. Of course, it’s worse for aspiring serious actors, who’s first big breaks often come from extra work.
Robots to free humans from back-braking, repetitive, thought-killing tasks should be welcomed BUT every physical product or service these robots create or perform should be taxed and the owners of these entities using robots should be subjected to a wealth tax, proceeds to finance activities that will further humanity’s betterment.
Yeah, I’m not worried about it. AI is handy as a tool, but robots are not gonna replace us anytime soon. Dumber than a sack of bricks. Cool to look at, and fun to play with, but beyond inefficient on a practical level. It’s like freaking out that Legos are gonna replace construction workers.
Advancing technology was SUPPOSED to make us work less. But the missing component in that is who gets the wealth generated from it. When society still measures your worth by the sweat on your brow, you’re susceptible to being replaced and marginalized. The owner class keeps it all for themselves.
Social democracies know better, which is why they tax a little more and deliver a lot more in social services and worker protections and rights. Things the owner class doesn’t need—and doesn’t want to pay for.

A picture of an order kiosk would also have been appropriate.

Prove your value to a company and you’ll have nothing to fear. Act like a lib who’s “quiet quitting” and you’ll be gone. It’s that simple.

AI will be useful but let me see how many people are happy about going to a AI “doctor”.
