I grew up in Brooklyn in the 1950s. Every kid played in the street. There were hundreds of us. It was “in your face” humanity. You either learned how to play nice with others or you didn’t play at all.

Our swings were mostly rectangular seats of wood or plastic. Didn’t crunch the legs like the sling type.
