This may be apocryphal, but it reminds me of the one about the man whose mother-in-law bought a popular horror novel and was so spooked that she threw it in the river, not even wanting the book to sit in the trash bin until collection day. So he bought another copy and soaked it in a bucket, then put it in her nightstand. You can imagine the reaction.
