PSA: The fourth and final supermoon of 2023 will be visible after sunset Thursday, capping off a summer full of big, bright full moons.

This year’s harvest supermoon will reach peak illumination at about 6 a.m. ET on Friday after rising in the previous night sky, according to the Farmer’s Almanac. It will be visible Friday evening, too.

Thursday’s full moon is called the harvest moon, because it’s closest to the autumnal equinox, which was Sept. 23. Farmers and other skywatchers also call September’s full moon the corn moon, signifying end-of-summer harvests.

Stargazers who miss this week’s supermoon will have to wait about another year for the next supermoon to grace the night sky late in summer 2024.

Rory could have sent the sheep to my house. I have absolutely fantastic sunsets year round. I am blessed with such a great view, it overlooks a lake that right now has thousands and thousands of geese migrating through. I feed wild ducks also, and Sunday morning I had over a hundred of them waiting to be fed when I got up. Such beauty. The Winter is coming, that’s true, but there is even beauty in that…..plus I still get the sunsets.

I see the tip jar is overflowing, Rory!

On Oct. 14 I will have two sunsets! The regular one and one starting about 10AM. Anyone want to join me in watching the sun get devoured by the moon?
