Ask yourselves who ran up the debt in the first place and why they don’t want it paid off?

I remember when candidate Obama called a mere $9 trillion in debt “irresponsible” and “unpatriotic.”

    Ahhhh……the good old days……..

It only matters when a Democrat is in the White House. The Fraudfather, along with the Banana Republicans blew the debt and deficit to the moon with their Tax Cut and Spend Scam.

I hate Matt Gaetz, but this, and the border wall (now solved, thanks to Biden) were 2 things he was trying to draw attention to, and that we need to reduce federal spending. Something democrats are unwilling to do.

Who cares? It was the GOP that created this problem. And so far, they don’t want to fix it, they want to argue about who should be Speaker. They want to elect their jack-booted Nazi wannabe like Jim Jordan.

Wow, it’s amazing that Repubs only notice the national debt, when they aren’t in power. Then they just run it up like there is no tomorrow. Then again, given their stance on climate, there may come a day there is no tomorrow for the human race.

A major part of the problem is that there’s little recognition of what federal $$$ is spent on. With an aging, longer living population why wouldn’t expenses related to the elderly increase? Same with the huge desire to stay #1 in defense spending compared to the rest of the world for threats real and imagined. People want/expect well run, programs but are loathe to pay the workers who do those jobs.

Oh, and don’t increase my taxes either; not even to pre-Trump levels, because it’s mine, mine, mine!!!

The US has always had national debt and people have always complained about it, mostly w/o realizing why it’s there.

If taxes were to go up on any one, or all, of the so called social classes, I can assure you that the House of Representatives, the Senate, the POTUS, their staffs, & the bureaucrats in the Swamp will eagerly find ways to spend it and not allocate one single, (worthless), penny to reducing the National Debt.Simply put, those who govern us will never do anything that is counter to their own best interests.

Not to worry; the Republicans will be back in the White House next election and the debt won’t matter any more.

They never ever ask that question whenever any corporate tax cuts are passed. This is a created problem and it’s just as easy to fix. Canceling the last 5 corporate tax cuts would be a great start.

The National debt is a non issue. It is an open ended cycle. Borrow expensive dollars and pay back with cheaper dollars and the middle wins. Inflation is a National Governments friend. Not so much for the public, but the Government wins!

It is too bad our congressional leaders don’t get as excited about debt as weather forecasters get about hurricanes.

Like the right really cares about debt. When they’re in office, they run up the bills. When they’re out of office they attack the President for doing the same.

As I recall before we elected that genius George W. Bush There was a surplus and the doubt was being paid down. I cannot seem to remember who was president and what party he belonged to. /s

I am impressed with Mike’s call to cut funding to the military and social security. It hasn’t proven to be a winning election strategy but let’s see how he does

We don’t have a spending problem. We have a taxation problem. We don’t tax nearly enough to pay for our spending. And, on a per capita basis taking into account GDP, the US is about 45th in the world in terms of spending.

We spend little (except on defense) and we tax even less. This isn’t hard.
