A return to some sense of the common good would greatly benefit us. While individual acts of kindness/charity certainly exist, I think too many of us are missing the bigger picture.
Pretty much irrelevant at this point. Every bit of it, except for the Third Amendment and a few procedural details, has been repeatedly, and often routinely, violated.
Senators are still serving terms of six years, for instance, members of the House of Representatives for two. And so on.
Examples of the most routine of violations available upon request.
When in grade school, we had to memorize the Preamble, the Pledge of Allegiance (post Ike’s “under God”), and the Gettysburg Address. Now THAT is the way — probably extinct in education now — to initiate a lifelong engagement with Civics, I think.
I believe that the Preamble is the most important part of the Constitution. It explains the purpose of the document and the goals of the Founders. It is the “WHY”. Everything else is the “HOW”. The Preamble is what school kids memorize, what immigrants dream of, and what Neocons try to hide.
