La Llorona is a Mexican vengeful ghost who is said to roam near bodies of water mourning her children who she drowned in a jealous rage after discovering her husband was cheating on her.
It’s boogie man kind of story to keep children from wandering at night. Or husbands. She weeps for hers now, but in the heat she took out him & his. It’s said to have happened along the upper Rio Grande, or was it the lower Colorado? It’s an ancient tale that probably happens now & again.
@pschearer- Thanks for the info and MAN!! That’s deep! And if you remember, that actually happened years ago when a wife was mad at the husband and she drowned their two young children. And I’ll never forget the news headline: “MONSTER!!”

I like how Cantú and Castellanos work in Mexican folklore. This is one of the reasons I liked using this in my Spanish class.

Say, I think there was a story about her on an episode of Paranormal: Caught on Camera! Isn’t she that screaming ghost?

I saw a movie about La Llorona. This was a cheap early version. Every time I heard the mournful cry, I would laugh as it was a pitiful effort.

@@pschearer- And you would never think she was capable of doing something like that because she looked like a little lame, dorky college professor!

A friend of mine has a bumper sticker that says “Honk if you’ve seen la Llorona.”
Here in TexMexland, that’s very funny.
